Welcome to the first step of your journey towards healing! Your exploration into getting started is a significant milestone. Cultivating a space for you to feel safe and be seen, is the essence of my framework in the process of therapy. This involves a consultation aimed at determining if we're a good fit for your healing journey and assessing the optimal treatment duration. Each person's path to healing is unique, but there are foundational aspects we'll focus on:
BEGIN: Intake forms are sent through your client portal, accessed through the email you provide at the consult call. You can also access through the Session Health Client Portal link found under “Current Clients” here on this website. The forms include questionnaires to explore current concerns, history, and needs, as well as consents which are reviewed prior to your first session.
ESTABLISH: Initial sessions prioritize building a strong therapeutic relationship and creating a safe, comfortable space for you to share your story. Therapy is a collaborative effort, where we set goals to measure your progress and celebrate your growth. Establishing rapport and trust in the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of healing in therapy.
SHARE: We’ll explore and discuss psychoeducation about mental health issues and the impact on your connections to self, others, and community. Psychoeducation forms a crucial component, providing insights and understanding about mental health and life stressors, addressing any associated stigma that may still be present or get in the way of your growth.
EMOTIONS: Understanding your own emotional language helps us to navigate your experiences and emotional needs. We’ll explore current emotional processes, what has worked and what may need attuning. We’ll learn and practice emotional regulation skills; such as grounding and mindfulness practices, and communication skills to assist in managing distress. Your feelings are meant to be felt not fixed! Emotional experiences are a guide towards deepening your understanding and your connection to self and others.
EXPERIENCES: Recognizing and understanding how past experiences have influenced your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors is key to developing healthier coping mechanisms and processing emotions effectively. Using the foundation of emotional regulation skills, we can explore the impact of your past and create corrective emotional experiences through processing and working towards healing wounds that continue to block your growth.
NURTURE: Though we can’t go back in time and change the events that have impacted your life, we can learn how to tell the story different through a new lens. As we explore your emotional experiences, we begin to focus on the helpful/healthier behaviors that are useful to nurture growth and create meaningful relationships with others and most importantly with your self!
